PROJECT 2.
DRAW/FADE.

I love collecting vintage golf books, which feature a wealth of photos and illustrations I use as a source of inspiration for my own work.
One thing that always caught my eye was the drawings of old shot shapes and trajectories, which created intricate, complicated patterns. Seeing the variety of these visual guides, I thought they would make for an interesting artwork, so I got to work at overlaying different shapes to create a reference to draw and fade flight trajectories, which can be displayed depending on whether you swing a golf club left or right handed.
While digital printing would’ve been the easiest way to produce this artwork, I prefer to create as many things by hand as possible, so I carved it onto a woodblock instead. This results in each print being made by hand in my home studio in Ōtautahi, all with slight differences and imperfections, making each piece unique.
